Secrets of Wicca Ritual Magic
“Scattered and few thy children be,
Yet gather we unknown
To dance the old round merrily
About the time-worn stone.”
The old Pagan traditions that would become Wicca have been a human obsession for ages. Perhaps the mix of magic and nature awakens something deep within people.
The following excerpt describing Neopagan ritual magic is from the Book of Shadows, a Wiccan text:
“Power is latent in the body and may be drawn out and used in various ways by the skilled. But unless confined in a circle it will be swiftly dissipated. Hence the importance of a properly constructed circle ... A little wine taken and repeated during the ceremony, if necessary, helps to produce power. Other strong drinks or drugs may be used, but it is necessary to be very moderate, for if you are confused, even slightly, you cannot control the power you evoke. The simplest way is by dancing and singing monotonous chants, slowly at first and gradually quickening the tempo until giddiness ensues.”
- Book of Shadows
The Pagan influence can be seen everywhere throughout the history of the occult, secret societies, and the esoteric.
You’re going to see just how strange and mysterious the Wicca tradition is, as well as how witchcraft remains a highly feared practice by some groups even to this day, as its popularity surges.
Wicca as a religion is not very old, though of its basis goes much farther back. In 1939, it was a man named Gerald Gardner who identified the nature-based witchcraft rituals and spells being practiced in the woods in England which through him became known as Wicca.
He claims to have witnessed it while being initiated into a coven of witches he believed stretched back deep into history. The New Forest Coven was an alleged witch cult that practiced in the New Forest area of Southern England, and were carrying on an ancient tradition.
The “Cone of power” is a well-known example of the ritual magic performed, described in the following excerpt by a modern Wiccan:
"The cone of power contains the combined will of the group, and the power of the Goddess from within each person. The power is raised by chanting and singing, repeating a chant over and over until tension mounts. The practitioners feel the power grow, feel it rise from each person to merge into a fountain of light that surrounds and leaps above them, They add their own energy to the rising cone, to the growth of energy that is almost visible-heard and felt by all."
The “power” can then be “directed”, literally, at a goal, so they believe. Gardner claimed that the New Forest Coven (possibly joined by members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and others) performed a real Cone of power ritual that succeeded in stopping Hitler from invading Great Britain:
"Witches did cast spells, to stop Hitler landing after France fell ... They met, raised the great cone of power and directed the thought at Hitler's brain: 'You cannot cross the sea' ... All I say is that I saw a very interesting ceremony performed with the intention of putting a certain idea into his mind … and though all the invasion barges were ready, the fact was that Hitler never even tried to come."
There is a surge of popularity in Wiccans and those who practice witchcraft in our modern time. Often it’s like a personal philosophy for some who believe in magic, revere nature, and seek reassurance and guidance through the difficulties of life. In the words of one Wiccan regarding witchcraft:
“...witchcraft enables me to see the world through a more balanced lens. I’ve felt the reassuring presence of the otherworldly in the midst of difficult circumstances, and I know that magic happens when I summon the strength to draw boundaries or stir away the guilt that bubbles up if I choose self-care over self-sacrifice.”
Not everyone is glad about this resurgence. The popular Christian publication, Focus on the Family, published an article, “The Hidden Traps of Wicca”, that warns parents about their teens getting involved in “black magic”.
It even includes a ‘cautionary tale’ about a girl who regretted getting into it. She was lying awake in bed when the room suddenly got cold:
“I hugged my knees to my chest and gasped as a legion of what can only be described as black demons encircled my head, all laughing at me...”
She tried witchcraft to make them go away, but “The laughter escalated” with each spell she tried.
Thus there are still those who fear and distrust the practice.
But Wicca and witchcraft remain embedded in our modern society. Perhaps even increasing.
The lure of nature magic maintains its hold.

From the Book of Shadows:
Ever remember the promise of the goddess, "For ecstasy is mine and joy on earth" so let there ever be joy in your heart. Greet people with joy, be glad to see the.
Think of the grandeur, beauty, and Poetry of the rites, of the loved ones you meet through them. If you dwell on this inner joy, your health will be better. You must try to banish all fear, for it will really touch you. It may hurt your body, but your soul is beyond it all.
And ever remember, that if you help others it makes you forget your own woes. And if another be in pain, do what you may to distract his attention from it. Do not say "You have no pain," but if you may, administer the drugs which sooth as well as those that cure. But ever strive to make them believe they are getting better. Install into them happy thoughts. If you can only get this into his inner mind so that it be always believed.
